AUTONOMOUS UNIVERSITY OF MADRID

The Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) is a public university founded in 1968, when his powers were spread over several buildings in the Spanish capital. However, the current location of this university is the Cantoblanco Campus, north of the city of Madrid, next to Alcobendas and San Sebastian de los Reyes. This campus, with 2.252 million square meters of total area, was opened on October 25, 1971.
It is one of the six public universities in Madrid near Complutense University of Madrid, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Universidad de Alcalá and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.
It has seven faculties: Science, Law, Philosophy, Psychology, Medicine (located outside the Campus of Cantoblanco), Economics and Management, Teacher Training and Education and the Polytechnic School, in addition to seven captives Colleges (five nurse, a physical therapy and a teacher), all structured in 59 departamentos.2 also has many research institutes and centers themselves Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) partners.

History:

As the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the University of Bilbao (later renamed University of the Basque Country), the Autonomous University of Madrid was born thanks to Decree-Law 5 / 1968 adopted by the Council of Ministers. This reform was carried out by the then Minister of Education and Science, José Luis Villar Palasí, to allow for university restructuring.

Motto:
The University's motto is the Latin phrase Quid Ultra Faciam? This phrase means What else should I do? This slogan has been used to title the book containing works of the 25-year history of the university and called Quid ultra faciam? Works of Greek, Latin and Indo-European commemorating 25 years of the Autonomous University of Madrid.

Symbols:
The university has four symbols: the shield, flag, logo and seal. The shield, as defined by Article 5 of the Statutes of the UAM, should be a "split shield topped with a crown of gold, nine lilies. Schools and Colleges:

The U.A.M. is divided into 8 faculties and colleges, in the organization and coordinate most of the academic and administrative activities. Each faculty is divided into departments that teaching and research in each field. Researchers can be grouped into research institutes. Thus, the university has 63 institutes and 8 departamentos5 investigación.6 also has 7 colleges attached that are not part of the administrative structure of the Autonomous but granting them diplomas to the UAM under the same regulations, academic and other qualifications own centers. The schools and colleges are:
-School of Engineering: taught degrees in Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Mathematics joint plan-Engineering, and doctoral and graduate programs.
-Faculty of Arts and Humanities: taught degrees in Social and Cultural Anthropology, East Asia Studies, Arabic Studies, Classical Philology, Philology, French Philology, English Philology, Philosophy, Geography, History, Art History, History and Science Music, Linguistics and Translation and Interpretation, as well as PhD and graduate programs.
-Faculty of Medicine, provides the medical undergraduate.
-Law School: taught degrees in law, political science, and the joint plans of law, business administration and law, political science, and doctoral and graduate programs.
-School of Psychology: Psychology teaches undergraduate and doctoral programs and graduate.
-Faculty of Sciences: taught degrees in Chemistry, Mathematics, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, Science and Food Technology, Biology, Physics, Industrial Technical Engineering degree (Industrial Chemistry), the Diploma in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and Double Degree Math-Engineering. It also offers doctoral programs, postgraduate and the possibility of double major (Spanish and foreign) in careers in math and chemistry.
-Faculty of Economics and Business: taught degrees in Business Administration, Economics, 2 nd cycle degree in Market Research and Techniques and Tourism Diploma and doctoral programs and graduate.
-Teacher Training and Education: Diplomas taught Hearing and Language, Special Education, Physical Education, Early Childhood Education, Music Education, Elementary Education, Foreign Language, Science and Bachelor of Sport and Physical Activity and Educational Psychology and programs doctoral and graduate students.
